COVID-19 and Church

Church is not a building but a family of God’s people. Our ‘church’ has been scattered by the coronavirus. We will not be gathering at Namadgi School in Kambah on Sundays. No, we will be spread out all over the city of Canberra. Christians have been meeting in homes for over 2000 years, some under persecution. Now we get to experience this first hand. We will be meeting in our homes in line with government guidelines.

Our hearts ache because this is not how we are supposed to be. Gathering together on Sundays as one church is fundamental to our identity and we are unable to do so. We will ‘virtual stream’ our celebration, but it really will not be the same. Nor should it be. This virus is a sign that we live in a fallen world and we long for a better one to come. This is why Jesus lived, died, rose again, and promised to return. It is in situations like this, communion with God and community become powerful tools for comfort in the hands of the Holy Spirit. So, let us be wise at not turning social-distancing into social-disengagement. We encourage everyone to tune in to the livestream on Youtube from your own home. This will be followed by Zoom fellowship groups.
